We will provide a homelike environment, that is open to all hospice care services, embracing all cultures, where families can be together at the end, and the hospice resident continues to have care and support.
Going on hospice care provides dignity, alleviates suffering, and helps the family and friends prepare for the passing of a loved one.
Hospice is not giving up. Hospice is full of hope. Hospice in fact relieves suffering, promotes dignity, and facilitates closure for patients and families.
What hospice programs can do
The house for hospice works like a bed and breakfast, you stay at the Hospice House, much like a hotel stay, and the actual hospice care is provided by another agency. RiverCare is not a hospice agency.
What people have said about choosing a Home for Hospice:
It is too difficult to have my parent or partner die at home, but we don’t want to be in a hospital either…
I want my children or partner to spend time with me… unburdened and supported.
*May incur additional costs
Families will be supported by their interdisciplinary hospice teams and may also find support in the presence of RiverCare staff. Our Home for Hospice Support Specialist for example, has in depth experience with death and dying after serving patients and families in hospice homes and an inpatient unit as a spiritual and bereavement counselor. She is available to provide emotional, social and spiritual care if needed, when assigned hospice team members are not available. RiverCare home care staff are also available to provide hospitality services like cooking and laundry assistance.
Food:
The choice is yours. We will provide oatmeal in the morning, and then soup throughout the day for your convenience.
Or
You can make a particular family meal, or spend some time together in the kitchen, it will be fully stocked and ready to be used by you.
If you need additional supplies the house manager will be happy to gather those items for you.
The RiverCare Home for Hospice is a community-wide option available to all hospice organization and their patients. This calm, home-like environment provides an alternative to larger care facilities, adult care homes, personal residences or hospital settings. We intend for it to be a comforting place where people on hospice services can come for a supportive, quiet and intimate space to experience active dying and death, supported by their chosen hospice team and family members or circle of care. It is not a long term residential or assisted living facility.
At the center of the home for hospice environment are four important values: Comfort, Compassion, Peace of Mind, and whenever possible, Family Led Care. We provide a safe, clean and respectful space where hospice patients from any background or faith can rest easy, knowing they are loved and cared for in simple yet profound ways.
