National Nurses Week – Riverview Spotlight: Christopher Mulvihill
This National Nurses Week, we are proud to celebrate Christopher Mulvihill, Director of Clinical Wellness at Riverview Retirement Community!
At Riverview, our mission to provide a culture of quality, safety, and excellent care begins with leaders like Chris. In his role, he ensures the health and wellbeing of our clinical department — supporting both staff and residents. “I aim to empower and support my staff and my residents in whatever ways I can,” Chris shares. “To root out any hurdles that can be resolved or removed to make care delivery smoother and more efficient.”
Chris started his career working in the dining room of an assisted living facility in Oregon when he was just 18-years-old. A server at the time, he loved his job and the residents he became familiar with. It was those residents that talked him into trying out caregiving, which ignited his love for healthcare and nursing. That led him to where he is today. “The most rewarding part of my job is when I can see that I’ve made a real difference in someone’s life — made them feel heard or seen, helped them feel better, or safe and not alone,” he says.
When asked what makes a great nurse, Chris emphasizes curiosity and critical thinking: “A great nurse is always asking questions, never assuming.”
For National Nurses Week, we asked what the best way is to show appreciation for nurses. Chris believes the best way is simple and sincere: “Share how they made a difference in your life. Most of us love sweets too,” he adds, laughing.
Finally, Chris offers this heartfelt message to nurses everywhere this week:
“In a time where many have left the field and many more are still leaving, have hope — because there is a new generation coming.
Also, don’t ever lose sight of the sacredness of our work, nor the vulnerability of those we serve.”
Happy National Nurses Week!
