November 26, 2024 | The Spokesman Review

The Riverview Retirement Community in Spokane has become a vibrant hub for artists of all ages and skill levels, fostering a supportive micro-community of creativity. The art group, founded by Gib Rossing in 2017, offers a space for residents to pursue individual projects, collaborate, and find joy in creativity, regardless of their experience. The group, now led by Dorothy Mehl, has inspired the creation of an art wall for exhibitions and has sparked a variety of artistic endeavors, from painting and embroidery to woodworking. Residents like Jackie Volz, Carol Mellin, and Bill Bertsch continue to develop their craft, with some even teaching others, creating art that often reflects personal memories or travels. The community also boasts murals, woodworking workshops, and craft fairs, contributing to a lively and engaging environment that helps residents maintain a sense of purpose and connection. Through these artistic endeavors, Riverview fosters a vibrant atmosphere that keeps its residents feeling youthful and alive.
